When Avrohom is about to enter מצרים, he tells שרי
הנה נא ידעתי כי אשה יפת מראה את (בראשית יב:יא)
Rashi explains,
ד”א, מנהג העולם שעל ידי טורח הדרך אדם מתבזה, וזה עומדת ביפיה
What does it mean that Avrohom only now sees Sorah’s beauty?
The way of the world is that one travels they become unsightly, and Sorah remained beautiful.
Rabbi Kalish remarks, the translation of מתבזה usually is disgraced.
Here we can apply it to mean annoyed or frustrated.
When one travels, often they are frustrated.
Human frailty dictates that it takes time to arrive at our destination and that is annoying.
Sorah had every right to be frustrated.
Avrohom had convinced her of the importance of moving to Eretz Yisroel and now when they arrived and there is a famine, he takes her once again on a journey this time to חוץ לארץ, to מצרים.
A husband can not force his wife to move to חוץ לארץ and Sorah could have resisted.
However, זה עומדת ביפיה.
She was as fresh as ever in her belief and understanding that every aspect of the journey itself is very important.
Every part of the journey is meant by Hashem.
To skip part of the experience is a mistake.
The journey itself is precious.
Wherever you are and whatever the process,
Embrace the journey.
Sometimes we set goals and can get overwhelmed by all the steps required to reach them.
Remember it’s a process.
It’s not only about reaching the destination.
The journey itself is important and precious.
Enjoy it!
